Dance Party
On November 22, at 7 p.m., Our Own House will throw open the doors of Peterborough’s Town House for a dance party to benefit the new nonprofit. In addition to live music by The Flaming Poodles, a local band formerly known as The Gigantics, the event promises a 50/50 raffle, a cash bar, as well as snack foods. Donations for admission will be accepted at the door. Band member Patrick Hooper describes their music as “upbeat” and “fun songs” that are easy to dance to. Their playlist includes songs by Wild Cherry, Van Morrison, The Specials, Bob Marley, John Hiatt, and Bruce Springsteen. Members of the band performing at the benefit are Patrick Hooper (guitars, bass, vocals), Glenn Kelly (keyboards, vocals), Eric Pohl (drums, vocals), and Gary Schnakenberg (bass, guitar, vocals). The goal of Our Own House is to build housing in Peterborough for adults with developmental disabilities and help with supportive services to foster greater independence. These adult residents will have their own apartments, hold jobs, and also volunteer in the community. The members of the OOH board of directors include the co-chairs, Dawn and Andrew Brescia, Jennifer Bernet, Rosemary Duggan, Jane Gallagher, and Patrick Hooper. Visit ourownhouse.org for more information and plans for the future, as well as how similar houses are serving residents elsewhere in New Hampshire.
