MacDowell Downtown Series Featuring Artist and Creative Coder Brent Watanabe

Join us Friday, October 3, at 7:30pm for MacDowell Downtown - Code & Canvas: Reimaging Art in the Digital Age with Brent Watanabe. Artist and creative coder Brent Watanabe will present a selection of his innovative projects fusing traditional art forms—such as drawing or sculpture—with emerging technologies like video game engines and servo-control systems. He will preview an upcoming site-specific museum installation, as well as a behind-the-scenes look at the project he is developing during his MacDowell residency. Watanabe works in a boundary-blurring artistic field that merges contemporary art with digital culture—one that can be shaped by creative artists despite the underlying algorithms. A four-time MacDowell Fellow, Brent has returned from his home base in Seattle to the woods of New Hampshire, continuing his exploration of the physical and digital, the handmade and the virtual. This is a great opportunity to engage with an artist whose practice is redefining what it means to make art in the 21st century—right here in Downtown Peterborough. MacDowell Downtown is a free series of presentations by MacDowell Fellows that is open to the public. It takes place on the first Friday of the month from March to November. Each season of MacDowell Downtown features a wide array of programming, including film screenings, readings, artist talks, interviews, musical performances, and more.
