Music and Arts in the Emerson Brook Forest

Are you looking for an opportunity to enjoy the fall foliage, playfully and mindfully deepen your connection to the natural world, and to nestle yourself into a scenario that invites creativity?

Join The Sustainability Project for its annual Music and Art in the Emerson Brook Forest event on Sunday, Sep. 27th 10 am to 3 pm. Come for any or all of the activities planned for nature lovers of all ages. The Emerson Brook Forest Center, located at 57 Emerson Brook Drive, Gilsum, is wheelchair accessible.

The day begins at 10:00 with a focus on "What it means to live in harmony with nature" by Valerie Piedmont.

At 10:45, naturalist Mackenzie Roof, shares “Whoo Lives in this Forest?” Learn, through stories and art, about salamanders, porcupines, frogs, bats, owls and others who call the Emerson Brook Forest home. Bring a picnic lunch and join us for a noontime concert of traditional Celtic music with The Wolf Pack.

At 1pm, in her workshop "Beauty, Texture, and the Magic of Nature", Nicole Colvin-Griffin will teach participants how to make prints with leaves and gathered forest materials.

Throughout the day, there will be spontaneous music and movement, fairy house building, clay play, and nature crafts. Attendees will also be able to learn about “the 13 core routines of connecting with nature", explore the trails, while learning to identify native plants, and view the museum quality collection of Clay Heads by Susan O’Hara along with the recent works of several local artists.

After the closing at 2pm, everyone is invited to take a tour of Valerie's nearby homestead.
