Director of Finance and Operations
High 5 Adventure Learning Center is an educational nonprofit organization that helps individuals, schools, teams, organizations, and communities use experiential and adventure education as a tool for social-emotional learning, team building, and leadership development. A significant aspect of our work includes designing and building challenge courses throughout the Northeast. We are searching for a Director of Finance and Operations to increase our operational capacity to meet the high demand for our services. We are seeking someone interested in helping us make a difference in the world through adventure education.
This newly created full-time position is based in Brattleboro, Vermont, a small community-focused city in the state’s southeast corner, close to New Hampshire and Massachusetts. This is primarily an in-office position, with the possibility of working from home one or two days each week. In this vital position, you will report to the Executive Director and work closely with our Leadership Team to manage our financial and operational systems and support our staff and programs.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Finance
- Manage accounting and banking practices.
- Manage budget planning, financial reporting, and forecasting.
- Perform and/or supervise all regular accounting practices including A/R, A/P, GJE, reconciliations, etc.
- Maintain Quickbooks Online and other financial apps.
- Liaison w/CPA for filings, EOY reconciliation, annual reviews, compliance oversight, and best practices.
- Contribute to various projects as needed – individually and as part of a team.
Payroll and Benefits
- Oversee payroll and employee benefits, including CTO, health plan, insurance, retirement funding, and other benefits.
- Maintain and update our employee manual as needed.
- Oversee state regulation oversight/conformity.
Operations
- Manage operations and functionality.
- Supervise the Operations Team.
- Manage various site and facilities projects, maintenance, and relationships.
- Insurance: manage policies, renewals, and audits; liaison with insurance reps.
- Legal: work aside the leadership team to support risk and contract management.
- Regulatory: oversee business and government regulatory compliance, licenses, and memberships.
- Special projects as needed.
Skills, Abilities & Qualifications: ?
- A minimum of five years of relevant experience. Relevant advanced credentials are a plus.
- Strong analytical skills and proficiency with spreadsheet apps.
- Experience in supervising staff.
- Willingness and desire to bring energy and adaptability to High 5 and its mission and culture.
- Organized, flexible, and able to improve and grow our systems and practices.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively, keep organized in a fast-paced environment, manage simultaneous tasks, and adjust strategy to changing demands.
- Adaptable and eager to learn, seek challenging work, and ability to treat new experiences as opportunities to grow.
- Excellent communication skills, both internal to the organization and with external partners, in writing and verbally. Solid digital skills. ?
- Quickbooks Online experience is a plus.
- Nonprofit experience is a plus, but not required.
Salary and Benefits: $55K-$75K, commensurate with your experience, skills, education and training.
