Laboratory Technician I

The City of Keene’s Public Works Department is looking for an individual to join their team as a Laboratory Technician I!  This position is responsible for performing chemical, physical and biological analysis of wastewater, drinking water, stormwater and groundwater for process control and regulatory permits to ensure compliance with environmental compliance regulations.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Performs the collection of drinking water and wastewater samples at drinking water and wastewater treatment facilities influent, at various stages of treatment, and at plant effluent.
• Performs quality control and quality assurance tests and maintains quality control procedures in the laboratory.
• Performs proficiency testing for accredited analytical parameters and calculates and reports analytical results to databases.
• Conducts periodic inventory and maintains appropriate levels of chemicals, reagents, solutions, and other supplies and equipment essential to laboratory operation.
• Assists with public education regarding drinking water, wastewater, and surface water issues.
 
Note: This position is subject to standby duty and call-back during non-regular working hours, weekends, and holidays. 
 
Requirements include, but are not limited to:
• Bachelor's degree in a science related field, 1-3 years of related laboratory experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• A valid driver's license.
• NH Grade I Wastewater Operator or I Operator in Training (OIT) required within 18 months of employment.
• Obtaining the NH Grade I Drinking Water Treatment Operator or I OIT and NEWWA Wastewater Laboratory Analyst Certificate I are both encouraged!
 
Pay and Benefits include:
• This full-time position offers a pay range of $23.85- $29.72 per hour.
