30th Anniversary of 1995 Blockbuster Jumanji Scheduled in Downtown Keene April 11-13, 2025
(Keene NH) To kick off the 30th anniversary experience of the 1995 classic film, Jumanji, starring Robin Williams, cast members and/or their family members are invited to attend a gathering on Saturday, January 18 from 2-4pm at Tempesta’s Restaurant, located in the Best Western Hotel building at 401 Winchester Street in Keene. Bar service available. The location is special as the original casting call was held in the hotel’s ballroom.
Over 125 local and regional residents were chosen to be featured in the film, Jumanji. Filming occurred in and around downtown Keene in the fall of 1994 and spring of 1995 in advance of the movie’s release on the very snowy night of December 14, 1995. The iconic Colonial Theatre was allowed to be one of the first locations where the film was seen by the public. In advance of the film’s premiere in 1995, a cast party was held on December 10 to recognize people who participated as actors, technical assistants, and who offered their classic cars and bicycles to bolster authenticity.
On January 18, plans for the anniversary weekend will be shared, including a red-carpet cast party slated to occur on Friday, April 11. Attendees are encouraged to bring their memories and memorabilia, including any classic cars that were used in the film. The original cast party list is posted on the Jumanji 30th Anniversary Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/JUMANJI2025
Please spread the word to individuals and their family members. The 1995 cast party was taped by the Keene High School AV club and the video has been transposed by FACT TV. The 90-minute event can be viewed at this link: https://vimeo.com/facttv/download/914774057/ff31182c5c
The Jumanji 30th Anniversary Celebration will be the final large-scale public event to occur in downtown Keene before the City’s three-year infrastructure construction project begins. Event organizer and Greater Monadnock Collaborative member, Cathy Bergstrom, is enthusiastic about celebrating Keene’s silver-screen moment while Central Square remains intact. “We are thrilled to get to work with the City and several of the Main Street merchants to create this event! So many people have great stories to share from their experiences when Jumanji was being filmed here.”
