Kurn Hattin Homes Career Awareness Program: Kids Revisit Subaru of Keene

Westminster, VT and Keene, NH – The Kurn Hattin Homes Career Awareness Program (CAP) continues its mission of connecting students with local businesses to gain knowledge about potential employment pathways. The goal is to broaden students’ perspectives and provide interactive experiences with professionals in real-world settings who might positively influence future educational choices.

Kurn Hattin recently returned to Subaru of Keene, which was the first official CAP destination, with a new group of students who have expressed interest in the automotive field.

Hosted by Operations Director George Thompson and Service & Parts Director Justin Tyler, the tour included stops in the sales showroom and service area and ended with a question-and-answer session in the conference room. Students learned about career opportunities in sales, service, accounting, marketing, and more, as well as the educational background required to successfully pursue those jobs.

“Introducing children and teens to the auto industry can open their eyes to a career that they didn’t know they could have,” says Thompson. “One important takeaway for the students is to know that a person doesn’t necessarily have to go to college to have a successful career in this industry.”

Supporting Kurn Hattin CAP visits aligns seamlessly with The Subaru Love Promise that encourages dealers to be more than just retailers. Thompson explains, “We want to be a partner in our community and support non-profits, charities, and other organizations doing good things. The good things that Kurn Hattin is doing for kids means a lot to us. After hosting a CAP visit last year and seeing how well it went, we knew we wanted to keep participating.”

Spending time at the dealership gave students a firsthand look at the many roles in an automotive operation, leaving a lasting impression as they consider future careers. In fact, some of the kids are already counting the days until their 18th birthdays when they can apply to work at Subaru!

Other CAP destinations include the Colonial Theatre and Showroom, Len-Tex Corporation, Fireworks Restaurant, Savings Bank of Walpole, and Monadnock Media Group (WKNE), with other destinations in the planning stages. If you’d like to discuss becoming a CAP host, please contact Lorie Rogers at 802-721-6917 or lrogers@kurnhattin.org.
